The Most Downloaded Knitting Designers and Patterns on Ravelry

Ravelry, the reference platform for all knitting and crochet enthusiasts, is definitely the most useful tool along with Youtube to find material and ideas. We are talking about a site that gathers an international online community of enthusiasts, offers a vast archive of patterns, resources and a sharing space are a source of great inspiration. Among the various aspects that make Ravelry indispensable is the ability to access patterns from some of the most talented and admired designers in the field of knitting. In this article, we will explore some of the most popular designers and their most downloaded knitting patterns, focusing on the use of circular needlesand patterns that have caught the attention of Ravelry users.

The Magic of Circular Irons

Before we delve into the details of designers and patterns, it is important to understand the role of circular needles in knitting. Circular needles are a versatile tool for working in the round, eliminating seams and creating garments with a more professional look. These needles are ideal for sweaters, shawls, hats and more. Their ability to support a large number of stitches makes them perfect for larger, more complex projects.

Designer Tip on Ravelry

When I was asked, but who are the most loved and appreciated designers on Raverly the answer was this and I have to say I was a bit surprised because some of the designers I thought were more famous come only after these three talented women. There is to say that, Raverly is an American platform and maybe European designers like Fasset, Wallin are perhaps less known and less loved. Anyway, it was very interesting to do this research because I discovered patterns and designers whose patterns I immediately downloaded… then the hope always remains… to transform myself into some kind of 1000-armed Cali Goddess to be able to do whatever my curiosity suggests 😅 But let’s look at the podium:

  1. Andrea Mowry

Andrea Mowry is the queen! Definitely one of the most influential designers on Ravelry. Known for her innovative and modern patterns, she has a wide range of patterns including sweaters, shawls and accessories. One of her most downloaded patterns is the “Find Your Fade,” a gorgeous seven-color shawl that uses circular needles to create a smooth and charming color transition. She recently posted on Instagram the gathering of all her fans who made the Framed knit, which of course I plan to make with Rowan’s Felted Tweed yarn!

  1. Caitlin Hunter

Silver va Caitlin Hunter, known on Ravelry as Boyland Knitworks, is prized for her patterns that combine tradition and modernity. Her “Tegna” pattern, a lightweight sweater worked with circular knitting needles, is very popular. Tegna is especially loved for its simple yet elegant design, perfect for any season.

  1. Joji Locatelli

ao third place we have Joji Locatelli: a designer from Argentina who has won the hearts of knitters around the world with her sophisticated and detailed designs. Her “Boxy” pattern, an oversize sweater knit with circular knitting needles, is one of the most downloaded on Ravelry. Boxy is prized for its relaxed fit and contemporary style. But I will talk about her and one of her designs in particular in more detail in a future article.

Most Downloaded Patterns on Ravelry

We have discovered the most beloved KnitDesigners, but what are the most downloaded garments? I wondered whether Knitters actually like to work more on accessories such as knitted hats, shawls or create more complex garments such as knits: here is the answer!

  1. The Shift by Andrea Mowry

In first place we have “The Shift” , a cowl (neck) worked with circular needles, known for its creative use of colors and textures. It is an ideal project for those who want to experiment with variegated yarns and mosaic techniques.. which yarns to use Malabrigo and Noro This is the project description This neck warmer is the perfect accessory for any time! It is the answer for all those knitters who love to knit shawls but have trouble wearing them in style. A fun and inspiring project with changing colors that looks like an asymmetrical triangular shawl, and it only takes a moment to wear it uncomplicatedly as the finishing touch to any outfit!

  1. Weekender by Andrea Mowry

In second place we have another Andrea Mowry masterpiece, “The Weekender” : a casual sweater perfect for leisure time. It is worked with circular needles from the bottom up (bottom up knitting construction) that features exposed stitching details that add a touch of character to the design. Yarn idea? Malabrigo Worsted- New Jersey Manifattura Sesia This dropped shoulder sweater is my favorite item in the handmade wardrobe! When Brooklyn Tweed launched its line of mottled yarns for Shelter, I knew I needed a sweater with this effect. I combined my favorite features – texture, faux stitching, dropped shoulder, and a little bit of width to create a versatile sweater that flatters all shapes! Perfect for any body type, it’s great for wearing to the office or for a weekend walk in the woods. I’ve already made a second sleeveless version so I can wear it in warmer weather or over a long-sleeved sweater!

  1. Flax by Tin Can Knits

Finally in third place we find “Flax” is a beginner sweater by the Tin Can Knits collective. It is a free and widely downloaded pattern on Ravelry, ideal for those new to circular knitting. Flax comes in a wide range of sizes, making it a versatile project for the whole family. What’s more, this pattern is also developed on the thickness of the yarn you most love to work with and wear, so you can range from: the Flax DK: where you can use yarns such as Nordica by Manifattura Sesia
